Young Guns Network confirms partners for event programme for young music industry professionals

Young Guns Network (YGN), the networking group for young professionals in the music industry, celebrated its fifth anniversary with the launch of a year-long programme of seminars and events in London.

The launch event took place at The Ministry, London, Wednesday 3 October, and is to be followed by a monthly event featuring guest speakers and giving the opportunity for young professionals aged 18-30 in the music industry to network and form valuable contacts. Topics will range from music specific subjects, such as music publishing to advice on career development and entrepreneurship.

Remi Harris MBE and Sam Potts co-founded YGN IN 2013 with a dedicated team of volunteers from across the industry. It has since produced over 30 events to inspire and educate young professionals in the music industry and beyond, including two editions of the Buzz Jam music tech event which saw artists and coders collaborate to create new musical instruments and perform them live.

YGN will be supported by a range of industry partners over the next year with BIMM (British and Irish Modern Music Institute), Handle Recruitment, the Musicians’ Union, and Remi Harris Consulting announced at the launch and PRS for Music confirmed as an industry partner from November 2018.

YGN co-founders, Remi Harris MBE and Sam Potts, said: We’re delighted that YGN, which has been a passion for everyone who has volunteered and supported the event over the last 5 years, is now able to meet the demand for a monthly event for young professionals, and we’re looking forward to the year ahead!

Leo Nicholas, Head of Industry Liaison & Careers, BIMM London, said: BIMM are extremely happy to confirm our new partnership with the Young Guns Network (YGN), supporting their 2018/19 series of events. These expertly curated events, will not only allow our final year and graduate students the opportunity to gain invaluable knowledge, but also network and develop relationships with future industry-leaders.

David Johnston, Executive Director, Handle Recruitment, said:

We admire YGNs commitment to diversity and share the same principles on delivering support, industry insight, real work/life advice and vitally, presenting opportunity to our audiences.

Over 40 years, Handle’s success boils down to the long term relationships we nurture with our candidates, providing support as their career evolves.

YGN offer a fresh perspective on the music industry and will help us stay connected with a brilliant and diverse network of talented people. We look forward to working together.

Sam Jordan, London Regional Officer, MU London

We are delighted to partner with the Young Guns Network for their 2018/19 season. The Musicians' Union represents over 30,000 members, including 5000 young musicians. We share YGN's passion for supporting young creators and future leaders in the music industry. The musicians that we represent will benefit hugely from their upcoming events programme, and we look forward to working together.

Claire Jarvis, Director of Membership, PRS for Music, said: It’s important that PRS for Music supports Young Guns Network. The future of the music industry depends on a diverse workforce to continue to evolve the way we do things, in the same way that we see some of our younger members rewriting the rules on how to craft a song. YGN’s inspiring events pave the way for young people – whether they’re self-starting entrepreneurs or looking for their first full-time job in this business – to lead the charge.

Jen Needham, Marketing Manager, The Ministry said: We are thrilled to be able to host Young Guns Network at The Ministry. As a workspace and private members club for creative industries, we proudly support initiatives such as Young Guns Network and are excited about working together in the future.
